How does a “war torn” nation FEED itself? HEAL itself? SHELTER itself? REBUILD itself?
Without mortgaging away its resources? How does it build capacity and structure?
These questions have obsessed us over the past decade.
And we’ve found the answer:
Not just “education,” “technology” or de riguer “environmentalism” but ancient teachings: the town without a forest has no food, medicine or shelter. It is nothing.
Through the devastation of our forests we came to see what others who covet this birth-right know. The forest holds the key to life, wellness and prosperity.
So we endeavor to build a mill. A thoroughly modern technologically advanced mill. One we will operate from our deepest respect for nature and all within it.
Our goal is to contribute to the rebuilding of Liberia through the harvesting and processing our local woods locally. To add value. For our benefit and the global village at large.
We also intend to manufacture. In fact, we’ve already completed our first endeavor: an instrument destined to become a part of the rebranding of Liberia as a contributing member of the committee of nations – the Gblorso snare drum.
It won’t be easy but being a ward of the world is harder.
Furnishing schools that lack chairs and desks. Rebuilding entire towns crumbling from termite eaten “sticks”.
These and more are possible because we are endowed with some of the world’s most coveted woods.
We pledge to lead the renaissance of industry in Liberia through sustainable resource management, manufacturing and development through innovative use of our woods, highest standards of processing and manufacturing and love of what we do.
We see resources as a blessing and not a curse.
We supply over 100 species of exotic African (Liberian) Wood.
These salvaged and sustainably harvested trees thrive in a near perfect climate, consisting of continuous heat and annual monsoons providing supreme nourishment over hundreds of years.
A few examples:
Liberia Friendly Wood’s joint venture with Will Calhoun, the epic drummer from the rock band Living Color
and the extraordinary drum builder Sleishman Drums, have given birth to our first musical product available for the market.
We are proud to present the Gblorso line of snare drums!
